Awang sheep, which are the characteristics of big physical constitution, meatiness and goodmouthfeel and can adjust to the ecological environment of high altitude, big day-and-night temperaturedifference, oxygen-poor, low pressure and short growth period of pasture, have been bred based on thenative sheep population called Ovis ammon. They have valuable and excellent genetic resources andused to be sacrificed in temples and the former Tibetan local government administration.By visiting and investigating in main producing region of Awang sheep, their fundamental state, distribution and natural conditions are made clear. Forty sheep are drawn at random in main producingregion and measured by five m ain indices including body measurement(body length, withers height, circumference, chest depth, circumference of cannon bone, et al), the capability of woolproduction(wool length, hair color, wool fineness, sticky sweat, clip), physiological and biochemicalindices(breathing, pulse, animal heat), reproductive performance(age at sexual maturity and the initialbreeding, estrus cycle, gestational period, the lamb birth weight, aning weight, pregnancy rate, survivalrate of lamb, et al), dairy performance and feeding and management. A slaughter experiment of fiverams, three ewes and five wethers has been done and some data about the average carcass weight, killing out percentage, neat percentage, body fat, protein, heat, Calcium and Magnesuim in mutton isgotten. The resuls shows that theauerage weight of rams ewes.one years old rams and ewes arerespectively48.25kg.57.86kg.51.50kg and50.57kg annual production of wool of rams.ewes.one yearold rams and ewes. Are respectively2.90kg.7.8kg.0.50kgand0.51kg.And the rate of slaughter neemeat, conception lambing and are respectively50.52%.42.31%.89.83%.93.93%and85.43%.By theanalysis of genetic diversity of Zuogong sheep, Gongjue sheep, Chaya sheep and Dingqing sheep, theresult shows that it is preferential for Gongjue sheep to protect and conduct as the main breedingpatriline for their more excellent characteristics of allelic gene, effective allelic gene, heterozygosity andpolymorphicsm information content(PIC).According to the body measurement and weight of rams, ewes, one-year-old rams and ewesfrom the different regions of Awang, and Jiangda, the result shows that these are all highly significantthat rams and ewes of Awang sheep are heavier than those of Jiangda in weight, that ewes of Awangsheep are bigger than those of the Jiangda in body measurement and that one-year-old rams and ewesare bigger than those of the Jiangda in withers height. In conclusion, Awang sheep are bigger in thephysical constitution and faster in growing development than the Jiangda.
