Soil cutting is a complex dynamic process, which was effected by tillage depth, tillage speed, soil types and soil mechanical properties. In order to reduce the resistance of the traction farming parts for farming components designed to provide related technical parameters, and to carry out simulations based on extended finite element method crack propagation soil cutting research. Extended finite element method for soil cutting simulation study has important theoretical and practical significanceThe3D cutting model was set up by using the extended finite element method simulation analysis of crack propagation and fracture in the process of soil tillage, which is based on the coulomb failure of soil constitutive relations and theory of fracture mechanics and crack extension. The soil types was determined, the soil cutting3D model and parameters were set up, the relationship of soil and tillage parts was defined, the boundary constraint and load were set, then carry on the grid and numerical simulation.By using the extended finite element method (XFEM), the simulation analysis on the soil crack growth and fracture of the farming process were conducted and obtained basically the same results with those of existing soil cutting experiments. The relationship between the maximum circumferential stress and the stress critical intensity factors were derived according to the maximum circumferential stress theory. The numerical simulation of crack propagation in the soil cutting is achieved under the circumstance of various stress intensity factors. The results show that, with different stress intensity factors, soil cracks differ in crack initiation angle and expansion trend. Thus, the conclusion can be safely drawn that the soil stress intensity factor is one of the most important factors in determining the different path changes of the soil cutting crack propagation. The numerical simulation results about the analysis of soil cutting crack propagation show that:the soil cutting simulation based on extended finite element method can accurately analysis the crack propagation path, the size of the crack propagation length, the soil cutting forces and energy release rate of soil. The soil cutting crack propagation law of motion different path changes can be predicted according to the different soil stress intensity factors on soil physical properties. The results verified the feasibility of the extended finite element method in the research of soil cutting based on analysis method and provide some basis to continue to carry out the study of the soil cutting crack propagation problem.
