In recent years, stone quarrying always results in a series of harm to the entironment, therefore the vegetation restoration of the quarry became a problem to be solved.This study in taiyuan xishan quarry soil conditions, vegetation restoration and soil preparation technology, in the process of tree species selection, seedling types, planting time and planting methods and so on has carried on the preliminary study. This study did a preliminary research on the soil conditions of the quarry in Xishan Mountains of Taiyuan, site preparation technique, species selection, seeding types, afforestation time and planting methods. The results indicated that the quarry has the basic condition of the vegetation restoration while the soil conditions is bad. Before planting, Level-terrace Site Preparation was more conducive to the moisture conservation and the growth of the plants than cavernous soil preparation. Transplantion with soil was better to the survival of the seedings. Spring was the best season to planting and the early spring was the best time in spring to planting. Pinus tabulaeformis and Platycladus orientalis were the relatively appropriate tree species, because they had higher survival rate and can grow healthily. It was very useful to add some spcies of grass and bush to trees at the same time.
