With the gradual development of social economy and the improvement of people’s livingstandard, the demand for landscaping and aromatisation has been greatly enhanced. Herb hasgained popularity since it was discovered to be able to give aroma, refresh both body and mind,cure disease and provide a leisure place.From the perspective of the development and the current research of herbs from bothhome bad abroad,the article mainly explores the development and application of herbs in theUK in five stages: the introduction of herbs(-1500), its primary development(1500-1650), theblooming of medicine herb gardens(1650-1800), the industrial development (1800-1915)and modern development(1915-now). The researched aspects include the development andapplication of herb growing, the main feature of herb gardens, the important people and worksrelated in history and the feature of development in different stages. The principle and trend ofthe herb collection and cultivation, medical use, nutrition value, interior decoration, and finallysummerised the principle of the historical development of herb gardens. Meanwhile this articlesummarises the herb developement in China as well and provides reasonable suggestions for itsfuture development through the analysis of the herb development in the England.This study is the analysis of development of English herb in application. It has guidingsignificance for the development of Chinese herb construction and the study in herb garden.
