This paper studied the quantification of identification of Latin America’s Hongmu andcompared with Dalbergias of other regions, got the surface feature and structure characteristicsof five Hongmu in Latin America, and got method to identify the Hongmu in Latin America.(1) The variation ranges of parameters L*,a*,b*,V C and H of five kinds of Hongmu inLatin America were29~48,5~16,13~23,1~4,1Y~8YR,5~12. Among the five kinds ofHongmu, three are in Y color, two are in YR color. Of the eleven Hongmu, most of them are inYR color, entirely to black and dark.(2) In the five kinds of Latin America’s Hongmu, their metric lightness L*is positivecorrelated with H, and their metric index of the Red-Green axis color a*is negative correlatedwith V and H but positive correlated with H. their metric index of the Yellow-Blue axis color b*is positive correlated with color saturation C and tone H while the lightness V and tone H havethe same relationship.(3) The eleven kinds of Hongmu were divided into four categories with ward clusteranalysis. The first category includes Dalbergia cearensis, Dalbergia frutescens, Dallbergiacochinchinensis, Dalbergia fusca, Dalbergia retusa, and Dalbergia granadillo, their Euclideandistance is10; Dalbergia louvelii and Dalbergia melanoxylon are in second cagegory, with theirEuclidean distance is1.8. Dalbergia bariensis and Dalbergia oliveri are in the third class, andDallbergia stevensonii is in a single class.(4) Of the eleven kinds of Hongmu, the distribution range of GZL, GZT are2.64%~13.95%,2.52%~8.61%, and same species, GZL is bigger than GZT. Latin America’sHongmu’s GZL and GZT are smaller than other regions’. Among the eleven kinds of Hongmu, red rosewood and black rosewood have an obvious linear dependence between GZL and GZT,and black rosewood is more obvious.(5)Among five kinds of Latin America’s Hongmu, their average string pore diameterdistribution from big to small is Dalbergia granadillo, Dalbergia frutescens, Dalbergia retusa,Dallbergia stevensonii and Dalbergia cearensis. Density distribution from big to small isDalbergia cearensis, Dallbergia stevensonii, Dalbergia frutescens, Dalbergia retusa andDalbergia granadillo; area percentage distribution from big to small is Dalbergia cearensis,Dallbergia stevensonii, Dalbergia frutescens, Dalbergia granadillo and Dalbergia retusa. Bythe distribution of pore, we can separate Dalbergia cearensis and Dallbergia stevensoniibetween them.(6)Among five kinds of Latin America’s Hongmu, Dalbergia stevensonii has the highest ray height with9-10cells, and Dalbergia cearensis has the lowest ray height with5-6cells;Dalbergia retusa’s rays are uniseriate ray while most of Dalbergia granadillo’s andDallbergia stevensonii’ s rays are uniseriate ray and biseriate rays are visible; Dalbergiacearensis’s uniseriate rays and biseriate rays are nearly equal; Dalbergia frutescens hasuniseriate rays, biseriate rays and multiseriate rays, and most of them are biseriate rays andmultiseriate rays. Their distribution densities are all16-17per millimeter. By the structure ofrays, we can separate each other from five Latin America’s Dalbergia wood, but can’t separatethem with Dalbergia in other regions.(7) The longitudinal parenchyma of Latin America’s Hongmu are mainly diffuseparenchyma, apotracheal parenchyma and vasicentric parenchyma are visible, which canseparate them from other regions’ Dallbergia wood except for Dalbergia melanoxylon.(8) Latin America’s Hongmu and other regions’ density distribution is0.96g/cm~3—1.18g/cm~3, and the difference is not significant at0.05leval.(9)Four kinds of Dalbergia retusa from different regions all have diffuse parenchyma;Panama Dalbergia retusa and Mexican Dalbergia retusa have large amount of biseriate rays, the possible reasons are variation or they are other Dalbergia but Dalbergia retusa. MexicanDalbergia retusa has a larger density.(10)Combined the structure of color, pore, wood rays and longitudinal parenchyma, wecan identify the five kinds of Hongmu from Latin America.
