Research On The Religious And Worship Space Along The Jingxi Trail In Mentougo District

Based on the architectural study methods, this paper concerned with the study on religious and worship space along Jingxi Trail in Mentougou District. Jingxi Trail in this paper is referred to as the ancient traffic road. All the52religious and worship places in Mentougou are included; but one of the24places investigated are especially paid attention to. This paper attempts to prove that it is a unique perspective for religious and worship space totie itself to the local tourism, culture, economy, customs and other social factors by investigation. In addition, this paper tries to analyze the role and law of development of religious and worship space in rural China, and put forward to the inheritance and the protection methods for the needs of the times.The existing religious and worship space seems to be no rules. In fact, there is still some regularity to follow. This paper points out that both of the distributed situation of the religious space and the historical origin or historical development closely related with Jingxi Trail.After comparative analysis of the morphological characteristics for religious and worship space, three fundamental space characteristics are found:the space pattern of adjust measures to local conditions, the cardinal points of orientated north and south, and the layout of courtyard and no yard. Subsequently, typical religious and worship space which has good special attraction and distinct characteristics are described in detail.
