Since the founding of New China in1949, China’s diplomatic career entered a new stage. Growing together with new Chinese diplomacy, China’s embassies and consulates has achieved great development. In the past, the focus of attention is on diplomats and embassy events within the embassy. But today, the embassy is the burden of cultural transmission. It has to promote the country it represents, rather than just be the place for working and living. Government wants to show their political intentions and values through the embassy building, promoting their foreign policy and establish an international image. In recent years, large design institutes take a lot of design work in embassies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s commission. I had got the honor to participate the preliminary design stage and the construction design stage of the Chinese Embassy in India. In the process of design, I have a more comprehensive understanding of embassy, and felt the difference from the general office building. In communication with the person in charge of the project and in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I realized the importance of culture and cultural expression to the embassy building. And this paper is the further exploration after the design work. This article begins with culture and architectural culture. The viewpoint of "cultural expression embassy building process" is based on the "language expression", which means the "subject" use architectural language to express ideas and values to the "object" in order to reach the purpose and get the expected feedback. On the basis of a large number of data compilation and research, the main article is for expanded discussion. Chapter two to four answers three aspects of the problem:"Who needs expression","what to express"and "how to express". In the end, the Chinese Embassy in India is taken as an example to confirm the conclusion. In this paper, cultural expression of the embassy building design is not only a starting point but also the final destination, hoping to provide a reference for the design practice of embassy building, and support the further research of the embassy building.
