Study On Landscape Design Of Urban Overpass Accessory Space

With the development of China’s urbanization, construction of road is pushing forward as a unprecedented rate. In the past few years, three-dimensional traffic facilities like overpasses constructed had be drastically released the pressure of urban transportation and its significant shape had been influencing the landscapes and spatial forms in cities. At the same time, large-scale deconstructions for building new overpasses greatly impact the urban scenes and spatial forms. Urban overpass accessory place as a by-product of overhead traffic facilities has dual qualities of transporting space and public space. Though various restrains in the aspect of utilization it confronts, great potential of being a usable space it possesses. When original street space and vegetation are taken place by overpasses, the meaning and value have become a critical study thesis of how landscape design involves overpass accessory space can suture the urban space and serve the life of the people.This essay focuses on the re-utility of spaces under urban overpasses from the perspectives of landscape architecture. On the basis of related theories and practices, the author points out the essences of landscape under the overpass, summaries the current problems about utilizing, analyzes potentials and limitations of underpass spaces. Then, the essay deeply analyzes each problems and their features, and via discussing and exhibiting excellent domestic and oversea practical cases, proposed various methods of utilizing underpass spaces in the field of landscape architecture, predicts the development trend of underpass space design in the future for the purpose of stressing people’s awareness toward urban underpass space and rich relative theories of underpass space design. At the end, the essay tries to the basic notion of combining landscape with urban infrastructures in China and help to put practice such notion in the process of urbanization.
