Earthen sites are relics and artifacts left by human activities which constructed by soil. As cultural relics, which are scientific, historical, artistic and no renewable, once destroyed, will become a permanent loss, so they should be as long as possible to maintain their original for scientific research and exhibition.Earthen sites in northwest arid China are suffering from weathered surface heavily. Currently, the ways to solve the difficulty lies on the research on anti-weathering materials and its scientific conservation technique, but the research on anti-weathering materials is in the stage of exploration. In recent years, the invention and application of new materials have developed rapidly, and the researches of new materials have entered a new era.The broad application of a new material needs a lot of practical tests. Combining with the SH effective reinforcement in sand and loss, we apply it to the earthen sites reinforcement. Through a series of laboratory and field test, the paper preliminary studied the permeability radius and permeability rate distribution and changing characteristics on the surface of the rammed soil instilled by different concentration of SH, and the strength changing of the samples after permeability. The test results indicate that:(1) When we take the laboratory test on earthen site samples, the optimal grouting capacity of single hole which depth are5cm are30ml-40ml, the time of instilling permeability are about300min, and the final surface permeability radius are about3.0cm-4.0cm.(2) The wave velocity of samples are increased after permeability reinforced by SH. The growth rate of wave velocity will be the highest when the grouting capacity are30ml-40ml and the grouting material concentration is1.0%, so the optimal reinforcement concentration of SH is1.0%.(3) The compressive strength of samples are decreased after permeability reinforced by SH, especially for the sample which grouting capacity are40ml and the grouting material concentration is1.0%, which strength have decreased most obviously.(4) The density and the anti-disintegration of samples have improved significantly when they reinforced by SH.(5) When we take the conservation on a earthen site which similar with the test area, the optimal grouting capacity of single hole are40ml-50ml, the time of instilling permeability are about40min-60min, and the final reinforced radius are about4.0cm-5.0cm.(6) The wave velocity of walls are decreased when they instilled by0.1%SH and0.3%SH, the velocity of walls are increased when the grouting concentration is greater than0.5%, the reinforcement effect of1.0%SH is obvious, so it can be inferred that the optimal reinforcement concentration of SH is1.0%.
