Beijing Xuannan Area is the area out of Beijing Xuanwumen. It has a long history whichhad been a part of Ancient Ji City, Youzhou of Tan Dynasty, Zhongdu of Jin Dynasty, Dadu ofYuan Dynasty. In Qing Dynasty, the government took a policy called Man Han Separation. Itmeaned the Han people cannot live in Beijing Inner City. Most of Han officials chose to livein Xuannan Area. Because of Xuannan Area is on the way from south China to Beijing, a lotof examinees which came to attend Imperial Examination and officials which came Beijing tosee emperor had also gathered here. As the time passed, a unique culture called Xuannanculture had formed and it became a important part of Beijing culture. In the pass, there werelots of guild halls in Xuannan Area. These guild halls had witnessed many events in historyand a lot of famous people had been living here. They had made a great contribution toBeijing’s policy, economy and culture.This paper focuses on the layout, structure, decorative art and conservation value of guildhalls in Xuannan Area. In the last part of this paper, I put forward some suggestions and wantto do some contribution to guilds halls’protecting and reusing.The chapter one is the introduction of research background and purpose, current researchsituations, research situations and area, research method and framework.The chapter two is a summary of guild halls and Beijing Xuannan Area.The chapter three introduces the detail research of guild halls in Xuannan Area. It mainlyabout the guild halls’ origin, definition, classification, layout, building function, structure andso on. At the end of this chapter, I will make a conclusion about the building characteristics ofguild halls.In chapter four, I display the results of my investigation about the number and situationof exiting guild halls in Xuannan Area. Than I make a summary of their distributioncharacteristics and conservation problems. At the end, I put forward the some suggestionsabout guild halls’conservation and reusing.The last chapter of this paper takes Beijing Anhui Guild Hall as a case to discuss theways to protect and reuse guild halls. Anhui Guild Hall was once a large official guild hallwhich had witnessed a lot of historical events. It is very valuable. In this chapter, I first makean introduction of Anhui Guild Hall. Than I analysis the current problems. At last, I putforward a conceptual design ofAnhui Guild Hall’s conservation and reusing.
