With the continuous development of industry and the diversification of electrical equipment, users’ demand for power quality, grid security and economic operation is ever increasing. In the power system operation, adjusting the reactive power can improve the power factor, thereby enhancing grid transmission power levels and reducing network losses. During the power grid construction and upgrading in our country, insufficient reactive power regulation capacity and unreasonable equipment configuration are inevitable. Nonlinear equipment and surge load access to power grid will lead to voltage fluctuations and reduction in power factor. Although reactive-load compensation equipment based on magnetic valve controllable parallel reactor can conduct infinitely variable control of reactive capacity and the excitation system is not affected by the voltage level, its response time is long, thus limiting its applications. This paper presents a rapid response magnetic valve controllable parallel reactor that can rapidly change output capacity in accordance with the reactive power and voltage, thereby reducing fluctuations in voltage and reactive power, improving system stability and improving power quality.This article introduces the working principle, mathematical model and response characteristics of the magnetic valve controllable parallel reactor under conventional excitation mode, and elaborates on three ways to improve the response characteristics. It proposes a rapid response magnetic valve controllable parallel reactor, which includes magnetic controllable reactor body, fast and strong excitation circuit and fast demagnetization circuit. On this basis, the paper expounds the working principle of the rapid response magnetic controllable reactor, analyzes the mathematical model, operating characteristics and response characteristics.On the basis of theoretical derivation, this paper establishes a MATLAB/Sinmulink simulation model, and makes simulation analysis of the harmonic characteristics and response characteristics between the traditional excitation mode and the new fast excitation mode, It can be seen from the comparative analysis of simulation results that, the new fast excitation mode can greatly improve the response rate and control the response time within a cycle wave. This paper designs a controller with DSP (TMS320F2812) as the main control chip, and introduces the IGBT drive circuit, thyristor drive circuit, voltage synchronous signal circuit, man-machine interface. It also describes the system software process and ways to trigger PWM signal generation. Through the prototype experiment it verifies the authenticity and reliability of the simulation.
