Wet clutch transmits its power by the friction torque between driving and driven frictionplates, and the process will produce a considerable amount of heat. If the temperature offriction plate is over high it will cause friction plate buckling deformation leading topermanent failure, which reduces the life of the clutch. The temperature of friction plate alsocauses changes in the friction coefficient, and the change will bring jitter impact during thebonding process, seriously affecting the comfort of the vehicle. Therefore studying on theflowing characteristic and convective heat transfer performance of the cooling oil for wetclutch is vital to maintain good friction characteristics. Based on this the paper mainly focuson the content as follows:1. Analyze the work principle of wet clutch. Then give the friction plate material andcommon oil tank structure, and propose the impact caused by different structure oncooling effect and friction performance.2. According to the fluid flow condition between friction plates, study and analyze therelevant equations of fluid dynamics, the flow field numerical methods and numericalcalculation of convective heat transfer.3. Based on the two typical three-dimensional structure of oil tanks, create the solid modelsof friction pair using map-making software of CATIA, and then import the model intothe software of gambit to complete necessary simplification, the boundary conditionsetting and mesh generation.4. Import the models into fluent software and calculate the fluid flow characteristic in radialgroove friction plate and composite groove friction plate. After completing thesimulation of convective heat transfer, compare the flow field calculation results of thetwo grooves. At last aiming at the radial friction plate research their heat convection casein different inlet flow and inlet velocity.5. Conduct the towing torque test and analysis, compare it with the simulation results toprovide the reference for future research.
