The mileage of high-speed railway in our country has been ranked the first all over the world.But the key technology of train communication network is mainly dominated by Siemens, Bombardier and other European companies, while China is still at a stage of catching up.In recent years,the Multi-block trains communication network is studied relatively few and the research on it is begun late.Hence the study on Multi-block trains communication network performance is greatly valuable to engineering application.In this paper,the Multi-block trains is studied.According to its topology structure and characteristics, the performance of network is analyzed deeply by applying the method of simulation modeling.And it’s discussed on five aspects. Firstly, the analysis of the network performance is finished and factors which affect the performance indicator is discussed. Secondly, the topology of Multi-block trains based on ARCNET protocol is studied, and the corresponding network topology model, link model, packet model, node model and process model are builded to simulate the link utilization, packet loss rate and time delay. The third aspect is about the topology of Multi-block trains with16carriages based on Ethernet.And the network performance is also simulated based on network topology model, link model, packet model, node model and process model. The IEC61375-2-5protocol is studied deeply,and the topology model, node model, process model, packet format model and link model with16carriages are established based on the three-layer modeling mechanism of OPNET to simulate the link utilization, packet loss rate and time delay on different load conditions.Lastly,a comparison to the network performances of Multi-block trains under different protocols is analyzed.According to the simulation results,three aspects are indicated. Firstly, the performance of the train network model based on ARCNET protocol can meet the requirements in real-time and reliability.But there are certain disadvantages, such as the date transfer rate.Secondly, the performance of train network model based on Ethernet can meet the requirements in network bandwidth and real-time. However the packet loss rate is large and its reliability is poor. Lastly, the train network model under IEC61375-2-5protocol successfully inherits the high-bandwidth of Ethernet and meets the requirements in real-time and reliability on different load conditions.Therefore, the Ethernet train backbone network is value to engineering application in Multi-block trains,and it can be used in Multi-block trains communication network.
