This paper takes Sui County as the study area which is the most representative village in SuiZhou of Hubei Province. Based of the status of land use images in1997-2012, we acquire the distribution map of landscape pattern by the technology of GIS. Then use natural factors, human factors and policy factors to analyze driving mechanism of the landscape pattern in Sui County.The study result reveals that climate, topography and hydrology in natural factors have a positive effect on landscape pattern change. There are some differences between three villages which lead to landscape pattern evolution results difference, especially in rural agriculture and automotive manufacture.The human driving mechanism of the landscape pattern is analyzed from demographic factors, socioeconomic factors and traffic factors. Demographic factors is the inside main power on landscape pattern evolution, because the population growth could leads to demand increased for housing.Canonical correlation analysis and Stepwise regression are used to research the socioeconomic driving mechanism of farmland change. We also found that the Rural demographic and the total industrial production have a positive impact on landscape pattern in Sui County. Then fixed asset investment and total grain output have a negative influence on landscape pattern in Sui County. In addition, Principal component have a significant correlation with landscape pattern evolution of Sui County.Stepwise regression model results indicate that the gross industrial production (x2), total fixed asset investment (x3) and food production (x4) have a great impact on landscape pattern evolution in LiShan village; the rural population (x1), the total value of industrial production (x2), and food production (x4) have a significance influence on landscape pattern evolution in HuaiHe village; the rural population (x1), fixed asset investment (x3) and food production (x4) also have an effect on landscape pattern evolution in XinJie village, respectively. In sum, difference driving factors lead to different evolution results on rural landscape pattern.In addition, we also use space buffer and overlay analysis tools to analysis the impact on the Sui County landscape pattern evolution from roads, highways, railways, rivers and the center of town.And selecting the " Landscape change rate " and " Changes in landscape of grid number " as analytical criterion.Results show that the village landscape pattern evolved on both sides of roads and rivers are increase with increasing buffer distances, and the highways is not significant. In contrast with roads and rivers, the village landscape pattern evolved of railways and the center of town are decreasing with increasing buffer distances.From the results of policy factors, we can know that representative policy and mechanism could not be ignored. In particularly, these policies play a crucial role in guiding and promoting local economic development.In sum, the main driving forces causing landscape pattern evolution include the natural environmental factors, the economic development, the population growth, the traffic infrastructure construction and the government policy and planning. Then, different factors can reveal the inner mechanism driving of different villages landscape pattern evolution which provides the theoretical basis and references for possible future landscape pattern planning.
