The rapid development of the automotive industry has brought a substantial increase on auto possession, but it also brought in major issues such as environmental pollution and energy shortages at the same time. Nowadays, with the energy resource becoming increasingly insufficient and the environmental pollution being more and more serious, car energy saving has become a common view and a world-wide trend. The owners highly value car’s fuel economy and pay more attention to improve and enhance their fuel-efficient driving skills, especially under the trend of fuel’s price gradually increasing.The auto’s fuel consumption is an important indicator to measure the whole automobile’s fuel economy and the performance of auto’s engine. In the environment of energy shortage and for the present situation of EFI vehicles’ fuel consumption measurement, this article starting from the aspects of energy-saving, environmental protection, economic and convenient, puts forward an entirely new method about fuel consumption measurement which is different from traditional methods. This method mainly used the information of EFI car’s injection pulse width to calculate the fuel consumption of the car. The following are the specific process of the method:Firstly, a hardware circuit was designed to acquire and process the signals of EFI car’s fuel injection time, speed and engine condition in real time, then the relationship between the fuel injection time and fuel consumption in every moment was found out according to the information of speed and engine operating conditions, and finally a measurement and display system, which can display the EFI car’s average and instantaneous fuel consumption in real time, was designed and developed with the corresponding soft program. This method can well achieve the fuel consumption detection on EFI gasoline engine. The system has the characteristics of universality, because it can be applied to different models of EFI cars only by adjusting simply. In addition, the system also has the function of monitoring and prompting the driver’s driving behavior in real time, which helps to correct the driver’s bad driving behaviors and enhance the driver’s fuel-saving awareness and good driving skills. Using the system can not only reduce the fuel consumption of vehicles, save energy, reduce environment pollution caused by vehicle exhaust emissions, but also help vehicle owners to save money from fuel costs at the source.According to the principle of electronically controlled fuel injection system, this paper proposed a method to measure the EFI car’s fuel consumption based on the signal of fuel injection pulse, which controls the injector’s on-off; It analyzed and compared the affect on fuel consumption under different driving behaviors, and designed a variety of signal acquisition and conditioning circuit, and the control circuit of microcontroller system, etc. It has written the computing program of the system and finally developed a real-time measuring and display system on EFI car fuel consumption, and built an experimental platform and calibrated the dynamic fuel injection coefficient of different injectors with the fuel consumption measurement system; It also has measured the fuel consumption under different driving behaviors, verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the method based on injection pulse width to measure fuel consumption, and the important directive significance on driving behaviors of this method.
