High-speed rail is becoming a popular choice in travel. However, it brings aboutnot only the convenience, but also many negative products. The tractive power supplysystem, as the power supply of electrified railway, in which there is lots of harmonic.The harm of harmonic is paid more and more attention. The harmonic affect the qualityof electric energy supply and the working lives of traction transformer and tractionmotor. Meanwhile, the secondary protection of automatic control system may falseoperation and the motor train unit will be affected to be late. The traveling of passengerswill also be delayed time. In addition, the harmonic with transmission along catenarycreate interference for communication system. So there is an important meaning to studythe component, characteristics and suppression methods of the harmonic.The influence of locomotive and catenary on the harmonic in the tractive powersupply system is summarized. An optimization fourier algorithm is introduced toanalyze the harmonics in this paper. The harmonics in GaoMi electrical substation aremeasured in different conditions. By analyzing its components and characteristics indetail,the following results are achieved. The harmonic content will not increase withthe draw-bar power. It will decrease when there are several motor train unit in tractivepower supply system because of the current synthetic effect. Based on this, the harmonicsuppression method is proposed. The AT substation self-coupling compensation andhybrid active power filter are introduced. At last, The harmonic suppression test aregiven in YingKou substation.By the test results and analysis, the rationality is provedand the result can be used as reference for the further study.
