The Contemporary Public Art In The Rural Public Space

Rural public space plays an important role in rural construction, affected by various factors, rural public space shrink and disappear gradually,and relatively simple, then public awareness fade together,and the governments also lacks the funds for the construction of rural public space. There are some successful cases that the artists plant the public art into the transformation of the underprivileged communities in domestic and overseas since2000, Under the promotion of the artists and nonprofit organizations,these areas obtain more attention by the application of the contemporary public art with limited money, these not only promote local development,but also develop the self-confidence and public awareness of the local residents. The situation of these areas are similar to the rural areas of China,closed, lack of funds, low economic development,population loss and so forth.On the basis of these cases,this dissertation proposed new thoughts to make the most of the rural public art theory for the transformation of the China’s public space.The types and characteristics of rural public space have been researched in this paper first, these three factors including environmental factors, land system factors and industry factors lead to the changes of the rural public space’s development.This article pointed out that at this stage rural public space faces some problems including the public space recession,the lack of public activities, philosophy and the homogenization of the space.By analysing and summarizing the successful cases at home and abroad that have planted the public art into the transformation of the underprivileged areas, this paper advance a new thoughts that take advantage of the public art into the rural public space.Based on the concept and combined with the actual situation of China,this paper specialize the principle, creative elements,and the methods of the intervention between contemporary public art and rural public space,and the paper further pointed out that it takes great effect in expanding openness, breaking the homogeneous state, developing the public consciousness and enhancing the work skills,it also able to solve the problems about the closure and simplicity of the rural public space, and the lack of vigor and public awareness.In this paper, on the basis of theoretical analysis,A case design about rural public spaces in surrounding area of Changsha followed, It sets Guangming Village and CaiTaoyuan village as a case,By investigating these two villages, according to their respective characteristics and the present situation, we attempt to targeted the idea of public art interventing rural public space to a practical level.Through theoretical analysis, case studies, practical case combined with each other, this paper pointed out that the internal relations between contemporary public art and rural public space,make a reference and give us theoretical guidance on how to intervene rural public space with public art,on one hand,this paper make up for the deficiencies of the method for the construction of rural public space nowadays, on the other hand, provides a new idea for the sustainable development of the rural living environment.
