Research On Urban Function Deductive Process Of Shushan Forest Park

Along with the development of the economy, the rapid growth of the population, andthe acceleration of the urbanization, the city area of Hefei had been enlarged several times.The nature and the system of urban green space are in constant evolution as well. As one ofthe major types of parks, Shushan Forest Park had experienced the change from a suburbanpark to a city park. The transition of its urban function had been through the wholedevelopment of Hefei city from the very beginning.Based on the development timeline of Hefei city, this thesis studied the qualitative andfunctional changes of the Shushan Forest Park along with the urban development. Basedon the distinctions of politics, economics, culture, social background, the various nature ofthe land usage of the surroundings and the different construction conditions, thedevelopment of the urban function of Shushan Forest Park can be divided into threecourses: urban forest located in the suburb (1956–1982), urban forest becoming on theurban fringe (1982–2002), urban forest situated inside of the city (2002–present). Theurban functions of the park are different in each course.This thesis concentrated on the transformations since1956of Shushan Forest Park,and revealed the characteristic transition from "The Fundamentality" to "The Expansion"to "The Value-adding". Furthermore, this paper presented the restriction mechanism anddynamic mechanism under the surface features of the urban function evolution of forestparks, which are natural and geographical factors, infrastructural constraints, social andcultural factors, and government (local and central) influences, economic impact and trafficfactors.In the last part, this thesis summarized the statistics from field surveys and interviews,concluded the existing problems of the urban function of the Shushan Forest Park, andoutlooked its urban function in the future. Several beneficial supplements were also madeto the deductive procedure of the urban function of this urban forest in Hefei city. It ishoped that this thesis could provide useful references and methods for some morehumanized city functions of the urban forests in Hefei and other cities.
