With the improvement of road infrastructure, the noise pollution of traffic is getting worse. In order to control the traffic noise and to improve the living environment effectively, it is necessary to develop a system which could manage the traffic noise information and offer information of traffic noise prediction, a system based on AutoCAD is developed in the study.This thesis was supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (51078361), and the Transportation Technology Projects of Hunan Province (200743).In this paper, the characteristics, current situations and management methods of traffic noise are analyzed, after doing research on the application situations of combining traffic noise prediction with GIS in overseas and domestic research status, the noise prediction system based on AutoCAD with comparatively complete functions is developed, which is based on the noise prediction model introduced in the Ministry of Communications standard according to the characteristic of traffic noise in China and the technological guidelines for environmental impact assessment published in2009, the two models’formulations, adaptation conditions and relevant revisions are compared. The noise prediction system based on AutoCAD uses AutoCAD component technology and follows software engineering principles, and adopts ObjectARX controls in various programming environment.The system has the basic function of geographic information management, for example, file management, view management, the interactive inquiry of space data and attribute data of geography information and so on. The system provides many useful practical functions to make scientific management and integrates the noise prediction models to calculate and statistic the traffic noise along the road, it also can provide flexible search methods and different ways to display the prediction results. This system provides many useful practical functions by setting up a scientific management and making platform for the improvement of noise environment, it can lighten the burden of environmental workers and improve the efficiency of environmental management. The system is also compatible with the other traffic software, which is helpful to integrate the noise prediction and the road design.
