The gear is widely used in machinery equipments, accurat e assessment of the condition of gear wear is of great significance to ensure the equipment safe and efficient operation. Abrasive gear wear is closely related to wear condition. The quantitative descriptio n of abrasive wear that nonlinear and fractal is expected to reveal t he inherent law of the wear condition and gear abrasive wear, and achieve an accurate assessment of the condition of gear wear. In th is paper, the fractal theory was used to study the quantitative assess ment of the condition of the gear wear. The main contents include:First, to solve the problem of wear particle area dimension calc ulation’s lower accuracy, the effects of factors was analyzed. An opt imum seeking method based on orthogonal test in wear particle are a dimension calculation was proposed. wear particle area dimension calculation accuracy has been improved effectively by using optimu m seeking method.Secondly, The whole life cycle experiment of gear wear was c arried out. Five wear stage was acquired by wear rate, wear particle fractal dimension, vibration signal and working condition. the matte r-element evaluation model based on fractal dimension of wear parti cle group was established, The correctness of the matter-element ev aluation model was verified.Thirdly, the condition of gear wear was assessed by matter-element model,vibration analysis,wear rate, single wear particle fractal dimension.The comparison results showed that vibration analysis has low recognition rate to the abnormal gear wear in the end of the wear, wear rate can not distinguish between the abnormal gear wear, a single wear particle fractal dimension has the problem of dimension ranges overlap in the gear wear condition assessment,.matter-element model makes up the defects of other methods. Accurate assessments to the different condition of gear wear was acquired by matter-element model.
