The paper mainly analyses the wear condition of the internal combustion engine according to the ferrography,it is a wear diagnosis technology based on the analysis of wear particle.The practice has proved that the ferrography is the most effective method for wear condition monitoring and wear fault diagnosis.The paper researches the cylinder and piston ring which produced by the Yunnan company of the internal combustion engine.After the discussion of some fundamental theory and research ways about the friction and abrasion,the paper takes a series of experiments according to the friction and abrasion of the cylinder and piston ring.The paper takes drill machine as the base power, and then designs an experiment equipment that is can be used to research the friction and abrasion between the cylinder and piston ring. On the base of the equipment we can design more research project under variable condition, such as different material, power and work condition. The paper analyses the experiment results produced by the equipment and knows the wear contion,then analyses the configuration of wear particle.The paper collects the oil samples which produced in the experiments, at the same time analyses the configuration of wear particle which is in different wear contion and typical work condition based on the ferrography, On the base of the equipment we can sum up the typical configuration of wear particle which is in different wear contion and typical work condition,and we can connect the wear particle with the wear mechanism .On the base of this we can estimate the wear contion of the internal combustion engine which is produced by the Yunnan company of the internal combustion engine. So we can put up the wear condition monitoring and wear fault diagnosis based on the ferrography.This reserch provides some referenced value for the actual utilization.
