In the modern world, with the growing tension of the global fossil energy reserves, thegrowing strictly standards of the emission of CO2and increasing of the fuel cost, it is veryimportant to save the energy of ships. In the mean time, the environment problems caused byships and how to improve the efficiency of energy utilization have been paid attention byrelevant departments. EEDI and SEEMP issued by the IMO are carried out on January1,2013.It means that the world shipping industry faces the challenges of the fuel crisis andenvironment and the press of saving energy. If it is not transformed to the ship, the ship cannot operate in international waters. This paper takes the48000tons of oil tanker as a research object. According to theplatform of MATLAB/Simulink; using modeling method of average model, hethermodynamic simulation models of the main engine have been established. Thetemperature of import and export, the pressure and torque of models of compressor, intercooler, intake pipe, cylinder, exhaust pipe, turbine, turbocharger rotor and load have beenanalyzed. Through the comparison Intercooler import and export temperature and mainengine exhaust temperature with the sample data, the trend is anastomosis, and the error hasbeen less than5.51%. What’s more, it is proved that the model is right. It has providedsimulation data support for future ship research. The whole energy distribution of the ship has been researched by using the sample data. The models of energy consumption distribution of the main engine system, the power system, and the thermal station system have been established. And energy consumption distribution ofthe whole system has been calculated. The results show, Host is the largest part of the energyconsumption in the system, and it should focus on the host of ship. It has a good effect toimprove the whole utilization efficiency of ship by using energy-saving technology. In themean time, through recycling of waste gas of the engine system and waste heat of coolingsystem, the whole energy efficiency has increased by6.21%.At last, according to the EEDI equation, the Attained EEDI of the ship is5.74whichconform to the index standard implementation on January1st,2013. But in order to keep theship operating in the future, it is necessary to carry on the technological transformation. The paper has discussed the host selection, installing the waste heat recovery unit and using LNGfuel to decrease the EEDI. According to the calculation results, EEDI value of three kinds ofhost are9.11,7.99,5.91, which MCR for host are16660kW and14280kW and9960kW. Itcan be found that the three ways, which have advantages and disadvantages, can decrease theEEDI effectively, but it should be comprehensive consideration to choose the best scheme.
