With the development and application of a variety of vibration and noise reductiontechnology, the noise of the world’s advanced submarine has reached or lower than the noiseof the environment, and it need new methods of modern sonar antisubmarine.Vector sensorsas well as the corresponding signal processing technology is developing rapidly, the design ofhighly directional acoustic receivers has become possible, we need this to accomplish soundreceiver to achieve low-frequency passive detection target. The first part of the article we talk about the background and the significanes of thehigher-order vector sensors. The secondpart we use the Taylor series expansion, and give thephysical meaning of each compent. Then we use the finite difference method(FDM) toestimate the higher order deterivative, futhermore,we also figure out the causes of the error.Inthe third part we introduce the modal array signal processing technique.it can rebuild thecompent of the Taylor expansion series, atlast,we give the expression of the steering vectors. The article also focuses on using higher order derivative to estimate the position of thetarget.A liner prediction(LP)model is used to estimate the higher order derivative in terms ofthe lower order deterivative, and the LMS algorithm is used to estimate the cofficient of theLP model, then we simulation the performance of this metdod. At last tesed in an anechoicwater tank.
