The noise standard of IMO for ship cabins can not meet the requirements of the shipcomfort for a long time. The new standard (DE53proposal) has been proposed by EU in thelast two years, and it will become effective in2014. The higher level of the design andconstruction in noise control for ships of our county is required. In order to study the impact of the new noise standards on China’s shipbuilding industryand to propose effective coping strategies, the main jobs in the paper are as the followingaspects:(1) Comparative studies of new standard and current international noise standards(theIMO Standard)as well as standards of major classification societies are carried out, and thedifferences between the new noise standard and the present standards are analyzed.(2) Based on the relative criterions, the noise measurement processes and testingrequirements (equipment, environment, working conditions and the location of measurementpoints) for real ships are present in detail, and the measurement and calculation methods fornoise power level of air radiation are also elaborated.(3) Noise measurements of eight bulk carriers and oil ships are made, and combiningwith the eight ships’ noise testing values of CSSRC, the differences between the noise level ofnew building ships and IMO standard and DE.53standard are known preliminary.(4) Modeling principles and processes and calculation methods of parameters in thestatistical energy model are present. Considering critical influencing factors in the process ofmodeling, a series of simplified noise modeling methods have been proposed. Considering theinterior materials and layout, noise prediction calculation for models is carried out, and thevalues fit well with testing values, which proving this method feasible to calculate the niose.(5) Relevant noise protection measures and influential factors have been explored fromfour aspects such as the cabin structure protection design, noise source, routes of transmissionand recipient.
