With rapid development of China’s economic construction, various type of cablehas been widely used in the areas of national economic development of Electric power,communications, coal, metallurgy, chemical industry, transportation and so on.Widespread application also requires sophisticated detection and maintenancetechnology as a guarantee also the cable is usually buried in the ground or under water,it is difficult to find and maintain because the strong concealment of the cable faultpoint. How accurate, rapid and economical search for cable fault has become animportant technical issues. Though there are many different kinds of detection methodsfor finding cable fault point and they have different advantages and disadvantages, butthe requirement for cable fault detector remain unchanged, that is accurate, efficientand portable.At first, this paper introduces the commonly types of cable and their developmentsituation by now, and introduces the common types of cable fault and many faultdetection method. The working principle of the low voltage pulse reflection methodand the capacitance resistance method are analyzed in detail. On the basis of theintroduction, the low voltage pulse reflection method and the resistance capacitymethod is proposed to use in cable fault detection methods.This subject adopts MSP430MCU and FPGA as a development platform, aims tocomplete cable fault detector instrument design based on the principle of low voltagepulse reflection method and resistance capacity method. This paper mainly introducesthe design and development process of the experimental prototype. |
