Stamping simultaneous engineering is a system approach to carry out the inte-gration and synchronization of parts design and manufacturing, considering variousfactors of the parts manufacturing process in the design of auto-body panels, and it is aimportant method to reduce costs, improve quality and shorten the development cycle.Automotive B-pillar, also known as central cylinder, located between the frontand rear doors,is an important bearing components.On the one hand, it supports carroof, and bear the pressure of front and back doors.This paper takes B-pillar of a carbody covering parts as the research object,analyses its stamping formability andimproves its structure design with stamping simultaneous engineering technology.Firstly, it analyses the overseas and domestic research status of stamping simul-taneous engineering technology, technical characteristics and advantages. Using thebasic theories and technical methods of the stamping simultaneous engineering, itformulates the structural design process of vehicl B-pillar based on stamping simul-taneous engineering; Secondly, according to the shape of the vehicle B-pillar features,it makes analysises about stamping process and numerical simulation and formulatesstamping process program according to the principle of stamping process program-ming and sets the stamping process parameters and uses the software of Autoform tomake analysises of stamping formability and numerical simulation.With the stamping condition of vehicle B-pillar, it improves the structure designof the part from the manufacturing cost and stamping formability. Considering thematerial cost of parts and the cost of model development, stamping results, it makeseconomic and formability analysis of the improved structure design, meanwhile, itproves the application of stamping simultaneous engineering in the structure design ofvehicle B-pillar through simulating the stamping process of it.
