As a kind of highly man-made potential energy debris flow hazard source, once the tailingsdam fails, the consequences could be disastrous. The tailings dam failure is mainly due to theinstability of the dam, and the most intuitive reflect is the dam deformation. Therefore, the damdeformation analysis and monitoring can effectively grasp the operating status of the dam, sodam deformation analysis and safety monitoring methods have also become an importantresearch topic on tailings project.The tailings material is porous, and the saturation line directly relates to the stability of thetailings dam, so water seepage can not be neglected for the dam deformation; as the key job forthe dam deformation monitoring, the way of displacement monitoring points arrangement mainlyincludes expert experience and engineering analogy nowadays, which lack of the necessarytheoretical basis. Due to the special geographical location, the upstream dam constructionmethod, the stack height exceeding70m while the existing monitoring sites are located less than55m, therefore, to ensure that the deformation monitoring value can more accurately reflect theoperating status of the dam, it is necessary to analysis the dam deformation with the existingheight in the seepage-stress coupling field and the scientific layout about monitoring points forXi Yeshan iron ore tailings.In this paper, using the finite element numerical simulation software to analysis the elasticmodulus, the slope of the dam, the size of the permeability of the initial dam; analyzingcomparatively on the dam deformation in the separate stress field with the coupling field;analyzing the deformation of dam1#to dam4#of70m dry beach numerical to find out themaximum deformation point and the potential maximum deformation area; according tocomparative analysis with the existing monitoring points, proposes two ways on addingmonitoring points for the optimization of Xi Yeshan iron ore tailings dam safety monitoringmethods.
