Plants had many ornamental characteristics, such as dimension, color, shape, texture, and the seasonal aspect, etc. Previously, scholars did study from the qualitative perspective, but in this paper, we studyed the plant dimension quantitatively which was one kind of the plant ornamental characteristics.Firstly, in this paper the author researched the157species of common garden plants in Zhengzhou city, measured the height and crown of157kinds of plants, and carried on the classification and analysis particularly. The results showed that the arbor was divided into six kinds, the height was mainly between10meters to20meters, accounting for43.15%, the crown breadth was mainly between6meters to12meters, accounting for41.25%; Shrub was divided into6kinds, and the height was mainly between3meters to4meters, accounting for30.2%; Herb was divided into five kinds, the height was mainly0.1meters to0.3metres, accounting for33.3%. At the same time, this paper established a small database about the157species of common garden plants’s dimension in Zhengzhou city.Secondly, the author investigated the characteristic of road situation of a total of40roads of Zhengzhou city, including the road width, the height and crown breadth of Alee-tree, greening rate and coverage rate, etc. The survey results showed that the average greening rate is9%, the average coverage rate is59%and the average coverage rate of the main Alee-tree is53%in the survey roads. It’s carried on the analysis and evaluation particularly to the investigation roads. The analysis results showed that the greening rate which reaserched the standard was only12.5%in Zhengzhou city; the coverage rate whose effect was excellent was only22.5%in Zhengzhou city, and was urgently in need of improvement; the types of Zhengzhou city’roads were little, and one board and two belt type which had the best coverage effect accounted for75%, and the more plate belt type, the worse coverage effect. The road coverage effect became worse with the road widening in the one board and two belt type. Expressway roads had the worst coverage effect, which were all for the worse class, but the slip roads had the best coverage effect, which accounted for81.8%for good grades and hadn’t bad level.Thirdly, the author sumed up the related problems of road greening in Zhengzhou city, such as1. It was planted so small trees in the wide roads that the carriage-way can’t be covered.2. It was planted the large trees in the sidewalk and the little arbor and shrub in the Lane separator.3. The road was too wide and no Lane separator, etc. The author put forward some measures and solutions according to these problems. Such as1. The planting principle was to plant the suitable tree in the suitable road.2. The small arbor was improved.3. The new roads did greening again, etc.Finally, the quantitative research of plant dimension was applied to the Zhengzhou city’s road greening. The survey results showed that the plate belt style for road greening rate had the largest effect. And plant crown had the largest effect for the road coverage rate, based on this, according to the plant crown which was the main variables, the author carried out the mode construction and put forward four kinds of reference model for Zhengzhou city road greening.This paper made the following innovations:1. The author did research from qualitative analysis to quantitative research, established a small database about the157species of common garden plants’s dimension in Zhengzhou city and completed the preliminary quantitative research.2. The author adopted the foreign coverage criteria for the first time to evaluate the road coverage in Zhengzhou city.
