The tire gravity-type AS/RS can make tires roll down along the sloped racewayby gravity. It ensures FIFO and accords with the green storage principle. This paperresearches on key technologies for the tire gravity-type AS/RS, choosing passengercar tires as the object of study.Kinds of tire storage forms and domestic and foreign research status of tiregravity-type AS/RS are summarized. The advantage of tire gravity-type AS/RS areFIFO and intensive stock comparing with other types. Principle scheme design of tiregravity-type AS/RS are done for passenger car tires and off the road tires. The maindifference between them are arresting device and sorting device. Optimization designof the tire gravity-type AS/RS is done in two aspects of layout and cost establishmentsmost concerning. The sloped angle and shelf length are main factors to them. Underthe premise of the sloped angle is certain, the formula between the shelf length andtire stock per unit area and one between the shelf length and cost are derived. Then theoptimal shelf length is figured out. The stiffness and strength of shelves in the tiregravity-type AS/RS are essential, thus the finite element models of shelves, the overalland the partial, are built. The stress and strain are analyzed in the case of full tires.The shielding door is important in the AS/RS, the rationality of which affects directlytires’ storing efficiency, so the structure is designed carefully and the deformation ofshielding door is also figured out. Besides, the drive unit, containing ball screw andmotor, is chosen.
