The CRH EMUs service showed that the wheel-rail relation is very important to safe running and economical efficiency. The wheel flange and tread profile is an important parameter of rail/wheel relation, directly determining the rail/wheel dynamics, running safety and vehicle ride comfort. Moreover, the worn wheel profile and its evolution pattern according to service mileage influence wheel diameter loss amount when re-profiling and re-profile cycle, thus being one significant factor of economic wheel use. In one word it is practical and valuable to research the wheel flange and tread profile wear pattern and its corresponding vehicle vibration evolution law because they are playing an important role assuring safe, comfort and economic EMU service.The paper research consist of four pars:the outline design of the wheel wear and corresponding vehicle vibration track and measurement; the wheel and vehicle vibration performance evolution law research according to line test; the simulation research of the wheel and vehicle vibration performance evolution law according to vehicle service mileage; the design of the re-profile cycle. Firstly, taking the EMUs in service as the research object, the track research scheme has been lay out by the collection and comparative analyses of domestic and Foreign Service EMU tracking methods, wheel/rail safety measurement methods and wheel/rail safety assessment standards. Secondly, according to the measurement scheme, some track tests are completed on service EMUs. Moreover, the wheel wear evolution law and the corresponding influence to vehicle vibration performance are analyzed according the line test. The dynamic models of CRH3EMUs are made by using multi-body dynamics software SIMPACK, the simulation computation of the relationship between the wheel profile wear and the vehicle vibration performance is carried out, and the simulation results are verified by the line test results. Finally, referring to the line test analysis and simulation results, the re-profile cycles of some service EMUs are designed, guaranteeing the economic re-profile on the basis of appropriate vehicle dynamic performance.The research result showed that the measurement and track scheme is feasible after the line test certification, application and promotion. And the designed re-profile cycles of some service EMUs are put in use on basis of the wheel wear and vibriation eolution law. More over, some research achievements have provided the basic datum for establishing management and maintence rules for the service EMUs.
