As more and more highways in Guangdong province have been successively completed, the complexity the ambiguity path problem has been sharper and more apparent. At present, Guangdong has built many path-identifying stations to identify those highways. Although it can identify in a precise way, the traffic efficiency is under its influence because of the parking which is necessary conditions of building those stations. And then, as the traffic flow daily increases, hundreds of parking path-identifying stations will hinder the improvement of traffic capacity of the highway, simultaneously, building parking path-identifying stations involves a lot of problems, such as land acquisition and development, electromechanics and operation, and the invest and maintenance cost is also huge. Therefore, the cost of operation management will increase sharply. In addition, main path-identifying stations also go against the request and purpose of the spirit of network tolling. Thus, building main path-identifying stations will be limited, and to meet the needs of network tolling in Guangdong, it is really necessary todevelop a new method to solve the ambiguity path problems.Radio Frequency Identification is a technology that transfer wireless message by utilizing space coupling of radio frequency signal, and achieve auto-identification of theobject to be identified by those wireless message transferred. In the1940s, RFID andits theoretical basis was develop by the improvement and application of radar technology.Until the1960s, RFID has been tried to apply. It came into a big development period from1970s to1980s, RFID achieved a stage of business application. In the late1990s, more intensive standard is made by international community, and the products ofRFID were widely used. Gradually, RFID became a part of people’s life.Since the21century, the RFID’s theory has been promoted and completed. With the advent of theremote identification system which includes the electronic tag, the tag identification and the wireless reader, the RFID products which are used for identify high-speed mobile objects are being widely used. There are two main directions in RFID: ETC tolling without parking and ambiguity path identifying. The application of RFID in path identifying in highway network tol ling is main discussed based on the domestic and overseas research of path identifying and on the composition and working theory of RFID.It will provide a reference ofsolving the ambiguity path problem in highway network tolling for Guangdong provincial government that solutions are proposed which utilize RFID technology to identify the path-identifying password card on the vehicle in wireless way by building identifying station.
