There exists a great amount of biomass refuse in municipal solid wastes, which is in largequantity, easy biodegradable and with high moisture, and therefore has become the mainsource of environmental pollution by solid wastes. The special physical and chemicalcharacteristics and engineering treatment characteristics of the biomass waste, is the maincause of the secondary pollution such as odor, high concentration of leachate, and excessivedischarge of dioxin resulted from the traditional landfill, incineration and compost treatmentprocess. Guangzhou is currently facing a serious disposal problem of municipal solid waste,kitchen waste, sewage sludge and other wastes.A generation system by converting municipal solid waste into biogas is designed in thispaper. Biogas generation system’s design background and research significance and thecurrent situation are introduced in the paper. Then, Biogas power generation project andwaste heat recovery technology are designed in order to meet the process requirement, itcontains several parts: the deciding on the design of the biogas generate, the choosing of thebiogas generating units, the choosing of the heat exchanger, supporting the choice of gaspurification equipment, computing equipment selection, drawing up the process systems andfull-scale thermodynamic system, arranging of the chief workshop, Mapping between gaspurification and generator and between the vertical plane layout, the calculating of theeconomical thermodynamic efficiency, the designing and calculating for pipe and thechoosing of the accessories for the system. The results showed that the biogas productionderived from municipal solid waste of Guangzhou could reach0.21million cubic meter perday, and3Caterpillar biogas engines with2.5MW combined with3Caterpillar biogas engineswith1.0MW should be applied for power generation, and the annual electricity could come to59760MWh, supposed the annual operation period was7200h, which was expected to annualyield24.8million RMB. Besides, The total greenhouse gas emission reductions in thecalculated project period(from2013to2026) can be achieved to7.5billion tons ofCO2eq,which would bring significant economic and environmental benefits.This technology is an energy-saving and environmental protection and comprehensive utilization of resources of the best practical technology. In the industrial and agriculturalproduction, environmental protection and construction of a well-off life in large cities likeGuangzhou have a very wide range of applications.
