It is the base guarantee that a civil nuclear power plant has operated with many high energypipes and their protect methods are focused on one parts of nuclear safety.Due to the stages of protected content, above methods may separate into ex-controlmethods, progressing methods and post control method. Ex-control is including design of pipesystem, to select material of pipes and control of its manufactured process, and quality controlof erection, etc. Progressing methods is bearing capability of support, anti-earthquake bysnubbers and LBB analysis technology via analysis of pipe system pressure, in serviceinspection and fracture mechanics analysis. Post control method is pipe whip restraint andmodify or change of pipe. For they are totally used for protecting broken pipe, LBB analysistechnology was contacted with pipe whip retraints.Base on concerning postulated double-ended guillotine breaks (DEGBs) for high energypipes, there should be found some methods to protect or restrict the pipes. Pipe whip restraintsis suitable for above requirement. In common conditions, the probability of DEGBs is littleand some persons thought if it is necessary for equipped Pipe whip restraints. Specially, whenLBB is developed in advance, they want to reduce or cancel Pipe whip restraints. As theirthought, it should be omitted which can be omitted.This thesis is focused on research and analysis concerning two kinds of methods forprotection of high pipe leak and break, which are including pipe whip restraint and LBBanalysis technology. And it will point out that to cancel Pipe whip restraints is not availablewith the help of SWOT. For proving the point, the thesis will state by two chapters.Firstly, it will describe the feasibility and reliability of pipe whip restraint. Its feasibilityis proved by composition and its maturity of pipe whip restraints. And its reliability is provedaccording to the application of pipe whip restraint around main stead pipe in Pressured WaterReactor (PWR) and its mechanics analysis.Secondly, it would illustrate definition of LBB concept, source, develop trend and factapplication and sum up the characteristic and limits of LBB, and it has some limits to replacepipe whip restraints.This thesis will respectively clear the function of pipe whip restraint and LBB analysistechnology, and confirm that the former and the latter is different stage for protected highenergy pipe. They should not replace each other.
