With the issues of traditional energy shortage have become increasingly prominent. Thedevelopment and application of tidal energy is gradually warming. The Horizontal-axis TidalCurrent Turbine, as an important part of tidal current power generator, had attracted greatattention to its research. The application of Variable pitch technology also improved itsperformance well. As the basis of engineering practice, the study of the theory in lab is beingpayed more and more attention. So as the platform of basic theory research, the developmentof the experimental apparatus will play an important role in the growth of Horizontal-axisTidal Current Turbine. This article discussed in the aspects of structure design, strengthanalysis, control system design and experimental research in view of the requirements of theproject Horizontal-axis Tidal Current Turbine with Variable Pitch for Experiment.According to the design requirements of the experiment device, the paper determined themaximum energy capture rate using the theory of Bates and calculated the torque of VariablePitch System. After compared traditional horizontal axis turbine design, The direct droveStructure with collective pitch is determined.The detailed structure size of transmissionsystem, variable propeller system and generator system was confirmed according totheoretical calculation and the size of the equipments. The Motion was analyzed andinterference was checked in3d models.The theoretical calculation of spindle and gear was carried on to meet the designrequirements of fatigue strength. According to the load stress, the static strength of importantparts such as Main shaft, gears, cups were analyzed with finite element software. Resultsshowed that the stress and displacement were considered safe. According to the result ofstrength check, all the parts dimension and drawing was confirmed and produced the physicalprototype.The control system was designed into a distributed scheme and broke up into PC,communications systems, data acquisition system and pitch control system four parts. Afterthe establishment of communication protocols and procedures, the data exchange between PCand terminal equipment was achieved. Data acquisition system was design and calibrated to realize the collection of required to signal in experimental device. By implementing the loadin and out the system, the goal of stabilizing spindle speed was achieved.Apply the closed-loop control scheme into the pitch control system of experiment device.According to the principle of dc motor built the drive circuit and control program and Realizethe blade rotation with constant angle in control, then tested the whole system. By analyzingthe test data, the integrity of each module function was verified. Experiment proves that thisdesign of turbine experimental apparatus was able to complete the design requirements in theexperimental data records, operation condition monitoring, controlling variable propeller andthe generator load.
