In the current and coming period, road construction of our country will remain in a stage of rapid development, and there are a large number of old asphalt pavements which are being or need to be extended. The purpose of double twisted steel wire mesh used in the asphalt pavement layer overlay project is to improve the tensile strength of the asphalt overlay and reduce the thickness of the asphalt layer. As a new type of pavement reinforcement material, double twisted pavement reinforcement steel mesh plays a very important role in packaging and enhancing the asphalt concrete material. The loading on aggregate can be the most direct and effective transferred to the reinforcement, and it can make the asphalt mixture to achieve more tightly compacted. The internal stress of the new pavement layer is redistributed, and is more reasonable compared with the pavement without steel mesh. In this paper, by collecting relevant domestic and overseas information, asphalt overlay structures of highway projects in China are understood, and by analyzing the material properties of double twisted steel wire mesh, the calculation of finite element method is erected. The main contents are:(1) According to the usage condition of old road, reinforcement plans of double twisted steel mesh in different layers in the case of uncracked are proposed, appropriate parameters for pavement structure calculation are selected, mechanical response law of asphalt pavement layer reinforced by double twisted steel wire mesh in different layers overlay is analyzed, and the reasonable reinforced layer of uncracked pavement is determined through a comparative analysis.(2) According to the structural performance of the cracked old asphalt pavement, the mechanical response of asphalt overlay reinforced or unreinforced by double twisted steel mesh is analyzed, and combined with the actual traffic loading and usage condition of the old road, influencing rule of double twisted steel mesh asphalt overlay structure under different axle loading and with different modulus is analyzed.(3) A finite element model of double twisted steel mesh reinforced asphalt pavement under temperature loading is established, the influence of double twisted steel mesh to the stress distribution of the asphalt pavement overlay is analyzed, and the change of deformation and thermal stress of pavement overlay after reinforced is explored.
