The existing of old industrial buildings becamestumbling block of process of development in a way. In view of economy, resource,culture and other additive effect, the transformation of old industrial buildings,redevelopment for the new usage get it more and more attention. Now redevelopment ofold industrial buildings has become the focus of city construction.Xingtai and Handan are located in southern Hebei province which is China’slargest steel province and important base of coal and steel. Industry is the majorindustry of Hebei province. The southern Hebei is the important area in the province.There are many old industrial buildings which are fine in architectural style, constitutiveproperty and so on. With the step of major readjustment of the national industrialstructure, to promote the diversification and overall development, the old industrialbuildings are conscripted to be treated. Consider of economy, resource, society andother benefits together with the successful case of transformation of old industrialbuildings, some functional department enhance the realize of old industry buildings’transformation. Transform old industry buildings in scientific, reasonable andcontinuable ways and give full play to these buildings from space, environment,practical and aesthetic perspective will bring incalculable comprehensive benefits.This paper is made of six chapters:Chapter1introduce the old industry buildings’ transformation development fromrudiment to mature, analysis the transformation of old industry buildings’ course ofhistory from awareness to practice and at last to widespread. It states the significancethat old industry buildings’ transformation has on city development from economy,resource, culture and other additive effect, conducts feasibility analysis from perspectiveof architecture aiming at characteristic of old industry buildings, and state itsdevelopment prospect. On these bases, it introduces the main content, goal and method.At last, it also introduces typical successful cases of old industry buildings’transformation in home and abroad offering mentality for similar buildings’ transformation in southern Hebei.Chapter2introduces the study condition of old industry buildings from severalfocus of attention, and collect the research data to analyze the five important principlesof old industry buildings.Chapter3collects the information of Shanghai and two foreign old industrybuildings’ transformation from perspectives of industrial development background,transformation characteristics, transformation perspective, aims at the differentfunctions (creative industry, office building, entertainment venues, industrial factorybuilding, and residential building) of the transformed buildings to analyze the importantcontent that should be consider during transformation. It general analyzes the differentbuilding types of Shanghai old industry buildings’ transformation to form a primarydesign philosophy and train of thought, which provides powerful basis for the follow-upold industry buildings’ transformation of southern of Hebei province.Chapter4analyzes the development direction of industrial structure of southernarea of Hebei province according to its development status, development advantage anddevelopment patterns, which provides information for analyzing the old industrybuildings’ transformation condition scientifically and reasonably under the basis ofmastering the development patterns and train of thought.
