The spandrel-filled masonry arch bridges are in surprising numbers on the local roadsystem of county or towns in-service. For these in-service masonry arch bridges, combined effect between spandrel construction and the ring is significant. However, inexisting bridge design codes, the combined effect is totally ignored, and only the arch ringbearing capacity is taken into account, this is conservative. At the same time, most ofin-service masonry arch bridges exist in a certain degree of disease, thus how to assesstheir actual bearing capacity has become a problem needed to be solved. In this paper, based on the masonry arch bridges assessed and reinforced by ourresearch group, I analyze the disease of masonry arch bridges and summarize the maincauses of the disease, which it is greater significance to tap reasonably the bearingcapacity study of existing masonry arch bridges. For the estimate of masonry arch bridge bearing capacity, there is no unified methodat home. In this paper, there are three methods for the bearing capacity assessment ofmasonry arch bridges has been summarized.Based on finite element model, by way of equivalent filler to consider the effect ofspandrel structure on the bearing capacity of spandrel masonry arch bridge, consider theimpact of rise-span ration, establishment of masonry arch bridges bearing capacitycorrection coefficientZ1table."Life and death unit" simulates the defect of spandrelstructure, then to consider the influence of the defect on the bearing capacity of masonryarch bridge, establishment of the rise-span ration based on different vector bearingcapacity of masonry arch bridges cross section reduction factor ctable. In the respect of rapid assessment of the bearing capacity, this article use analytichierarchy process and fuzzy mathematics to comprehensively assess the carrying capacitycorrection coefficient and cross section-section reduction factor, and apply the VB language to procedural, in order to promote the use of engineering practice.
