Accompanied by the accelerating process of urbanization in present days, the heat-islandeffect has been aggravated in city center area, which owns high building density, weakventilation and poor heat dissipation. In summer, the huge anthropogenic heat extraction in center area results in airtemperature’s rising and poorer micro-climate, causing a vicious circle. However, thecurrent research on building air-conditioner mainly focuses on energy cost simulationinside or effect on outdoor thermal environment of heat extraction. There is little studieslinked between these two fields. In this research, a study into effect on air-conditioner energy consumption in publicbuildings of different heat extraction forms and different positions of outdoor units ofcentral air-conditioning system by using coupled simulation of convection, radiation andconduction and energy cost simulation of air-conditioner. Moreover, the variety of energyconsumption caused by different positions of split air-conditioning system’s outdoor unitsis also discussed. Thermal environment in blocks, surrounding the buildings andatmosphere adjoining the buildings are considered for analysis to calculate the variation ofenergy cost, discovering the tendency and rules. General design principles for outdoorunits’ positions in architecture designing are advocated. The result of the research shows that different heat extraction forms and different positionsof outdoor units do make a great impact on air-conditioner energy cost in buildings.
