High-voltage transmission line is an important segment of power system.Damage oftransmission lines from aging of line and meteorological hazards poses a great threat tosecurity and stability of the grid. Through the online monitoring technology forhigh-voltage transmission lines, it not only can reflect the operation state of transmissionlines directly and quickly, but also can provide basis for line fault judgment, ice coveragemonitoring and dynamic growth and so on.Based on the current situation of on-line monitoring research at home and abroad, the paper designs a state online monitoring system for high voltage transmission lines.Thesystem is divided into two parts, including the monitoring terminal and the control center. The state parameters such as voltage, current, temperature and sag angle, which aremeasured by the monitoring terminal, are sent to the control center through GPRS wirelesscommunication mode. According to the received data, the control center can analyze theoperating state of the transmission lines with the aid of the data analysis procedures, so asto realize the on-line monitoring of transmission lines. According to the function anddesign requirements, this paper selects the suitable power supply mode, communicationmode and sensors and designs the data acquisition and control unit. Finally the prototypeapplied in the on-line monitoring system is developed. The performance of the prototype is tested in the laboratory. The result shows thatthe power supply can work continuously and steadily, and it can meet the monitoringterminal’s demand. The precision of state parameters can satisfy the measurementrequirements. Meanwhile, wireless communication also can work well.
