As a new technology for product development, virtual prototype technology caneffectively improve development efficiency, reduce development cost and promotepopularization and application of new products. With relatively high torque density andgood performance at low speeds, a novel transverse flux permanent magnet motor(TFPMM)designed in our research group has very wide application prospects in direct-drive fieldwith low speeds. However, its complex structure and manufacturing technology results inrelatively slow development schedule and hinders further development and application. Therefore, virtual prototype technology is taken in the research and development of novelTFPMM in this paper, in order to improve its development efficiency and promotepopularization and application.Firstly, this paper gives a brief introduction on the relevant concepts, the significanceand research status of vitual prototype technology. Based on a further study on topologiesof existing and novel TFPMM, it is organized and summarized for novel TFPMM on suchaspects as the research background, optimization process and the structural characteristicsof every prototype.Secondly, the virtual modeling and virtual assembly of novel TFPMM are respectivelycarried out according to practical development process. Then much better demonstrationeffect is obtained by means of the rendering technology for three-dimensional solid model. The next work is to make virtual animation of the structure, operating principle andassembling process of every prototype for novel TFPMM with the help of SolidWorksAnimator. And the development process of novel TFPMM is vividly presented to promotefurther improvement of the research work on novel TFPMM.Finally, to improve develoment efficiency of the novel TFPMM, a virtual prototypedesign platform is built by the application of SolidWorks Redevelopment, which involvesparametric three-dimensional design, virtual assembling process, interference analysis andvirtual motion simulation.
