The wedge mechanism is one of the commonly important automotive panel dieworking range, as a direct product which trimming, flanging stamping the working parts.The key of the success of the automotive panel forming is whether the designment isreasonable, it’s also a essential content and difficulty of the designment. The traditionalWedge mechanism design needs designers engaged in the practice for a long time to gainenough experience of design. However, the shortcoming of this type are as follows:complex analysis calculate, low effect of the design, poor reliability, high demand ofrepeatable modification and disability to satisfy the demand of market.This paper, based on the traditional CAD theory, creatively introduces the theory oftemplate technology and variant design to study the key technology of rapidly intelligentdesign of automotive panel wedge mechanism. First, analyzes the typical structure andkinematical relationship of the wedge mechanisms based on the traditional constructionprocess of general template, uses assembly modeling method which is based on thecombination of skeleton model and dominant components to establish parameterizedtemplates for Wedge mechanisms, to those structure which cannot be the effectiveparametric modeled, use the idea of the "three noes" abstract to build the model of them.Then, based on the characteristics of wedge mechanism itself, study of the key technologywhich is aimed to achieve rapid variant design from three perspective. according to Wedgeinstitutions, a key technology to achieve its rapid variant design. Use model characteristic,restrain and release of the part to achieve the variant design of wedge mechanism; useUG/WAVE technology to achieve the relational design of geometric modeling; use BOMtechnology as the connector to achieve the flexible invocation of enterprisingnon-parametric standardized component as well as the intelligent selection and assemblyof standardized component which is based on the combination of expertise knowledge andexperience of success. Finally, combined with the real demands of enterprise, develops adesign system of variant design of wedge mechanism in UG-NX4.0. It could be veryconvenient to achieve the design and modification of commonly used wedge mechanism. Assembles a large amount of design standard, expert knowledge and successexperience in the system, and it is open to users in the way of BOM technology to helpusers to edit and update. It raises the flexibility of the system as well as the efficiency andquality of the design of the wedge mechanism.
