With the popularization of cars, traffic safety has drawn increasing attention of the masses,a lot of traffic accidents happened every year. Rainy day, as a general and special externalenvironment always make a significant impact on traffic safety, especially in the automotiverear-end accidents, which became a problem noted by many research institutions at home andabroad. With the rapid development of the micro-controller, the related electronic productshas registered significant progress as well, this paper is based on the theme of traffic safety,using the DSP series microcontrollers to research and develop a safe driving distance controlsystem which can adapt to not only ordinary weather but also rainy days, and alert the driverof potential hazards, warn the driver to maintain a safe driving distance advance, in this wayunnecessary traffic accidents can be avoided.This paper started with the safe driving distance model for car, based on the analysis ofordinary weather and vehicles on the road during braking, the algorithm of safe drivingdistance in ordinary was figure out. Then, according to the special circumstances of the rainypavement and vision, the algorithm of safe driving distance on rainy day was finally workedout. These above are the core algorithm of the vehicle safety driving distance control system.The core of this system is the choice and architecture of software and hardware. Hardwareis mainly made up of microcontroller, peripheral circuit, distance sensor, rain sensor, externalalarm and display equipments. While hardware is mainly made up of DSP2812, CCS, serialcommunication, CAN communications and so on. At last, taking full account of therequirement and trait of the rainy day safe driving distance control system, correspondingprogram is designed, which can ensure the whole system running smoothly.Finally, the real vehicle tests on this the rainy day safe driving distance control systemwas made. It began with systematical test on the design of the main program, and then comesto simple verification tests and the real vehicle road tests. In the process, problems werefound continuously and improvements were made straightway to perfect the system. Theexperimental results showed that this rainy day safe driving distance control system candetect the distance between obstacles and driving vehicle quickly, which has built thefoundation for the later further development and research.
