Throughout the long history, with the continuous development of humancivilization, a variety of cultural resources such as historic districts, traditionalarchitectures, literature and arts, and folk cultures have been produced, and all theseconstitute the unique local culture of a city. These cultural resources embody the city’sfeatures and are of great value, which therefore should be protected, explored and usedby the urban construction. However, contrasting to the rapid development ofurbanization and more and more blooming achievements, the original features of thecity are gradually disappearing. As a result, in terms of the landscape design, we shouldnot only fully tap the local cultural resources, but also present them by resorting toappropriate practices, so as to constantly enrich the city’s unique cultural connotationand maintain its distinct characteristics and fresh soul. The research aims to: By sorting out cultural resources in Yulin, exploring andsummarizing the available cultural resources in Yuxi River, abiding by landscape designsequences and using a series of design practices and tactics, we can apply the culturalresources to landscape design to change the status quo that the riverfront landscapedesign is lack of regional and cultural features, to form a distinctive, typical andrepresentative urban landscape. In my paper, through the fieldwork method, literaturemethod, and the method of comparative analysis and so on, cultural resources and theirdesign techniques are studied. For one thing, I hope to put forth feasible methods oncultural heritage in the urban landscape design, for another, this paper is hopefully toplay a certain role in promoting the city’s characteristics and image enhancement. There are6chapters in my paper. Chapter1is the Introduction, which consists ofthe research background, research significance, research review, research methods, research contents and research frame. Chapter2is the related research on the concept ofthe geographical and cultural resources and its classification, which consists of theconcept of resources, cultural resources and the geographical and cultural resources, andthe classified researches on cultural researches. In this chapter, we will also discuss tworesource classifications—the tangible resources and intangible resources. Chapter3focuses on case studies. In this chapter I will analyze the usage of the two kinds ofresources and their design techniques in Yulin. Chapter4is the investigation, researchand diagnosis of the cultural resources in Yuxi River. In this chapter, I will exploreYulin’s geographical and cultural resources in a deeper way and have an assessment anda selection on these resources, and finally find out the cultural resources which can beused in Yuxi River. Chapter5is the Case Study. In this chapter, I will put forward thelandscape design techniques which involve the local cultural resources in Yulin byapplying the specific cases of the river landscape planning on both sides of Yuxi river inYulin. Chapter6is the conclusion. In this chapter, I will sum up the main researchachievements, point out the exiting problems on the current researches in this field, andpropose the future research in the field. The essential creativities of this paper are:1.This paper looks at the culture from the point of the resources, showing us theconcept of cultural resources and classifying it into tangible cultural resources andintangible cultural resources.2.This paper analyses the types of local cultural resources in Yulin and their designtechniques, and finds out the design techniques and strategies that can apply culturalresources to landscape designs to fully use the cultural resources in the future design. |
