Arrangement of the openings of RC shear wall can significantly affect its mechanicalproperties. Wall limb and coupling beam can be formed In the case of regular openingswhich the holes are into columns and arranged in a row, and the stress distribution becomesmore regular. The complex stress distribution of staggered open holes and superimposedand staggered holes makes the calculation and the constitution difficult and morecomplicated.Due to the effect of some factors such as the size of a hole, shape, and superimposedposition and degree, mechanical properties of RC shear wall with superimposed andstaggered holes are always between shear wall structure and frame structure, and staggeredsection forms a weakness, many of them are destructed by the shear and become verticalthroughout. It’s very different from RC shear wall and the ductile structures showingbending deformation which is formed by coupling beam causing by opening holes. Theinfluence factors, its mechanism of action and failure mode of RC shear wall withsuperimposed and staggered holes is systematically analyzed by using the finite elementmethod. It has a certain significance to the design and optimization.By controlling the parameters such as the axial compression ratio and the maximumdrift angle, deformation characteristics, failure mechanism and stress concentration ofshear wall with superimposed and staggered holes, the wall with regular openings and thewall with staggered holes under frequent earthquake are compared and analyzed. The mainfactors affecting the mechanical properties such as mechanism of superimposed position, measurement of the hole and shape of the hole, and law of stress distribution, mode ofdestruction, degradation of the weak parts of components are investigated. The results show that, compared with regular openings and staggered holes:(1) When thesuperimposed position (degree) of superimposed and staggered holes is small andmeasurement of the superimposed and staggered holes is larger, deep flexural componentwith smaller span-height ratio is formed. The function of coupling component is weakenedor even lose.(2) When the superimposed position (degree) and measurement ofsuperimposed and staggered holes is larger, ductility of component degrades, the overallforce and deformation is close to the property of the framework, showing shearingdeformation. It is significantly different from regular openings which showing bendingdeformation.(3)Stress concentration runs through the edge of hole, and superimposedcoupling beam which is not conducive to stress redistribution, premature destruction of theweak part and being out of operation can weaken force transmission mechanism ofhorizontal direction between wall limb and result seismic damage mode as ‘defeat one byone’.
