In recent years, with the development of our economy and improvement of traffictransportation system, vehicle has greatly risen in China; automobile has become one of theindispensable transportation in people’s life. When vehicle brings some shortcut, convenienceand efficiency in everyday life, as it also lead to threat in human life and property because ofthe traffic accidents. So it has an important significance that we should enhance vehicle’s crashsafety performance to reduce the damage as far as possible.As computer simulation could find and solve problems as early as possible in the earlysimulation test. Then, the optimum design for the frame was established and the simulationresults should meet the requirements, thus greatly shorten the development cycle and reduce thecost of production. Therefore, this paper takes a sport utility vehicle frame as an example forfrontal rigid wall collision simulation analysis based on the finite element method. The mainresearch works are as follow:1、Through access to a large number of references, we have understood the main methodand research status of the domestic and foreign car crash safety.2、This paper shows that the basic theory of the dynamic explicit non-linear finite elementmethod. It includes the deformation process control equation, the hourglass control,time integration and time step control, contact algorithm, etc;3、First of all, we established the frame geometry model using CAD. Then, throughextracted mid-surface, cleaned up geometry, divided into grids and controlled it,checked quality of the elements in order to got high quality elements using HyperMeshsoftware;4、We established the frame finite element model using MSC.Patran. Then, bending andtwisting state strength analysis of the frame was calculated base on this finite elementmodal, in order to verity the frame structure to meet the requirements under thedynamic load, as a foundation for further study;5、The analysis model of this paper is based on C-NCAP test project, and the simulationof frontal rigid wall impact under50km/h was taken by LS-DYNA software. From the result of simulation, we don’t only obtain velocity curve and acceleration curve of theframe, but also velocity and acceleration curve of the test point, and get curve of eachpoint relative intrusion quantity. Base on the simulation result, we research the defectof the frame structure on the crash safety, and some improvements of vehicle’s framewere put forward.6、According to the simulation of the improved frame structure, The results show that thecrashworthiness of the improved frame structure has been greatly improved.
