The world’s total wind power installed capacity keep on growing all those years, andthe capacity of single wind turbine goes higher and higher at the same time, due to fastdevelopment, researches have to improve the efficiency and stability of wind powergeneration in order to meet the requirements of the power system and intensify thecompetitiveness of wind power.In this article, a general simulation model of a1.5MW is developed with the help ofMatlab/Simulink for a typical1.5MW variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) windpower conversion system based on doubly-fed induction generator power conversionsystem based on doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). It shows a preliminary study ofMW level wind power generation system in software simulation environment. With themathematical model of wind turbine, coordinate transformation, the control system, DFIGand the structure of converter. The simulation models are built. Space vector pulse widthmodulation (SVPWM) has been used for both grid-side converter (GSC) and machine-sideconverter (MSC). Use proper control parameters to make the designed simulation modelrun very well. Then build a simulation model for the three-level converter and use theproper control strategy to run the whole system.The simulation results show that when connected with ideal power grid with usinggrid voltage oriented vector control, the GSC controller can maintain the DC voltage tosupport the normal operation of DFIG converter; and the MSC controller can realize themaximum power point tracking and reactive power control of DFIG under rated windspeed with the implement of stator flux oriented vector control. The active power controlneed tens of seconds because of the long inertia time constant of wind turbine and DFIGrotor. The simulation model of three-level converter shows the total harmonic distortionwith the each line current is much lower.
