Seismic retrofit designing of existing buildings has been widely applied in the recentyears. The major methodology of seismic retrofit designing is to select a reasonablestructural system for reinforcement. This study aims to find a better seismic reinforcementmethod for Single-span frame structure with cantilevered verandahs, and provide betterseismic reinforcement design for existing buildings.Firstly, the main forms of the existing frame structure were introduced. Based on theprevious earthquake damage records of the frame structure, the damage characteristics ofmain frame structure and the essential reasons of earthquake damage were summarized inthe present study. Subsequently, the elastic response spectrum analysis and Pushoveranalysis on Single-span frame structure with cantilevered verandahs was conducted toobtain a comprehensive understanding of the reinforce mechanism. All the results showthat: the single-span frame structure with cantilevered verandahs has less redundancy,greater sway in the lower floors under the major earthquake, the rapid development ofplastic hinge structure, formed earlier institutions, easy to collapse. Proposed additionalframe column and additional shear wall structural system reinforcement program, andmaking the elastic response spectrum analysis and Pushover analysis, the results show that:two structural system reinforcement programs are able to play for more than structuralweaknesses improving the seismic performance and enhance the role of collapseresistance.Main conclusions are as follows: additional frame column reinforcement programincreases the structural redundancy, improves the lateral stiffness of the structure, the slowdevelopment of the plastic hinge to form a better beam hinge mechanism under strongearthquake, seismic performance and collapse resistance corresponding are increased; Ydirection to additional shear wall reinforcement structure can significant increase instiffness of Y direction, lateral displacement decreases, only has plastic hinge on beam endwith slow development, do not have mechanism in the final, effective play to improve theseismic performance and improve collapse resistance role, but its structure seismicperformance of X direction do not play to improve.
