Structural failures in recent earthquakes have exposed the weakness of current design procedures and shown the need for new concepts and methodologies of seismic performance evaluation for building structures. To meet needs of engineering design,performance-based seismic design method which address life safety, control damage under minor and moderate earthquakes, and prevent collapse under major earthquake ,was developed. It can be achieved mainly by two different Pushover analysis procedure:one is force-based Pushover analysis ,the other is displacement-based Pushover analysis. In this dissertation ,based on the research achievements of the former scholars, the nonlinear static Pushover analysis and the damage assessment method of building structure was improved and the corresponding computing program was compiled. This thesis was composed of four parts as follows: The first part is to analysis the structures by cyclic loading pattern Pushover analysis using five typical lateral load patterns imposed on the structures and three kinds of circulating modes by change the target displacement is undertaken. And these results were compared the results obtained by nonlinear dynamic time history analysis and conventional Pushover analysis. It is found that the analysis results by using the cyclic loading pattern can more accurately and reasonablely than the results obtained by the conventional Pushover analysis .but the analysis results may vary significantly under different lateral loading patterns when the structure is higher . In the second parts, two frame shear wall structures were analysis by using the direct displacement-based Pushover analysis and the adaptive displacement-based Pushover analysis , and these results were compared the results obtained by force-based Pushover analysis and nonlinear dynamic time history analysis ,It is shown that the displacement-based Pushover analysis is a more applicability and simplicity technique of evaluating the seismic performance of the structure.and it can not be affected by the higher mode effect. In the third part, dynamic time history analysis and Pushover analysis of a frame shear wall structure have been finished.Based on the above analysis results of the structure, various kinds of seismic damage evaluation techniques were used to evaluate seismic damage degree of the structure.Having compared the damage index of the structure obtained by these seismic damage evaluation techniques, the rationality and reliability of these seismic damage evaluation techniques are discussed in detail, some valuable suggestions have been put forward. In the last part,The 3D Pushover analysis and planar Pushover analysis were executed by using SAP2000,Two frame structures and one frame shear wall structure were given as examples to verify the accuracy of planar Pushover analysis,The analysis results demonstrated that the planar Pushover analysis method can be effectively used to evaluate seismic performance of the regular structures .
