Nowadays, more and more architects start to do construction and transformation for reusing. There are two reasons. One is low carbon environmental idea. It means making full use of the existing building resources are modified, reducing for demolition and produce hard to degradation of construction waste and expressing the value of a historical building in the tangible elements levels. The second is about the human caring for users. The same historical building or existing but not that old building is carrying people the carrier of memory. Extending the service life of these old buildings can also continue the significance in the cultural connotation levels. Historical building is also one kind of built environment, this paper discusses the generation of meaning mode in the reusing of historic buildings base on the idea from the meaning of built environment. The role of history architectural meaning is displayed on two aspects. One is by comparing the difference of meaning and value of the historical building. The second is through the historical building comprehensive interpretation and combined with the social cultural environment requirements. In this paper a large number of specific examples is used to research the meaning of this generation mode. Through the dialogue with the past and using the historical reference, space will have cultural value and cultural allure, which is can not be given by pure new building without background. Pay attention to historical building reuse is the inevitable trend of the future for architectural development. On the basis of meaning interpretation, there are three procedures(overall assessment, accurate location, rational operation) to achieve the optimism for reuse. The paper also extends the detail discussion on the balance for historical and current value.
