Reactive power compensation is a necessary measure to guarantee the powergrid runing stably safely and economically. In the electric power system,it canimprove power factor, reduce line losses, improve voltage quality, and enhance thepower supply efficiency.Thus, reactive power compensation is of a great significancefor power supply systems. The same for the the building electrical industry, no matterindustrial users or high-rise residential,etc, with increasing electrical capacity of thetransformer and the line loss, taking reactive power compensation measures forenergy conservation is very important. A reasonable reactive power compensation canmaximally reduce grid losses, improve power quality. If there is no reasonablereactive power compensation,then voltage fluctuations, harmonics and other factorswill flow into the power grid and break the power stability. It is an important elementthat reasonable reactive power compensation in the power system design.The main structure in this paper is: The first chapter discusses the significanceof the topic and research background and the current development, the second chapterdiscusses the basic concepts of reactive power compensation that related to thedefinition of active, reactive, apparent power, power factor and analyze the meaningof the reactive power compensation with the vector diagram. The third chapterdiscusses the calculated method of the reactive power compensation. This part relatesto the calculated method of the power triangle, vector graphics, energy billing meterand analyze with examples. Meanwhile this part also explained the determinateprinciples when the power grid is under complement, full complement, toocomplement. Chapter4expounds the economic value of the reactive powercompensation, discusses the cost of reactive for the industrial users and analyze theeconomic value with examples, and discusses the loss and equipment selection thatthe reactive power compensation affects. The end of this paper,through a project that I participated in------Design of Sanyao Changfeng five-star hotel,expounds thecalculation of the reactive power compensation and the economic values.
